Set within the forested landscape of Olivella, near Barcelona, this project transforms an existing rural masia into a contemporary hospitality complex comprising hotel rooms, residential units, a café, and a restaurant. The intervention is conceived as a careful dialogue between architecture and territory, prioritizing continuity with the natural environment and preserving the character of the original place.

The project strategy is based on respect for the landscape and the existing built heritage. Rather than imposing a dominant new volume, the architecture is fragmented into low, domestic-scale constructions that extend the logic of traditional rural buildings. Their pitched roofs, compact geometries, and earthy tones allow the ensemble to blend into the surrounding vegetation, minimizing visual impact and reinforcing the feeling of belonging to the site. New volumes are inserted with a light touch, positioned between trees and topographic lines to avoid unnecessary alteration of the terrain. Circulation paths follow the natural contours of the landscape, transforming movement between buildings into a slow spatial experience through gardens, grasses, and shaded clearings. The project is conceived less as an object and more as a system of relationships between architecture, vegetation, and horizon.

Materiality plays a fundamental role in anchoring the project to its context. Exterior finishes adopt warm, mineral tones that resonate with local earth and stone, while interiors are defined by timber structures, natural textures, and soft light. Wood ceilings, built-in furniture, and simple detailing generate calm, tactile spaces where atmosphere takes precedence over formality. Interior spaces are organized around visual continuity with the landscape. Large openings frame views of the forest, gardens, and distant hills, while deep thresholds and covered porches mediate between inside and outside. Bedrooms and common areas are conceived as quiet refuges, where light, proportion, and material coherence support rest and contemplation. The café and restaurant extend this spatial logic into collective use. Shared tables, generous openings, and sheltered terraces encourage informal occupation throughout the day. These spaces act as social anchors for the complex while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding environment.

Landscape design is not treated as a separate layer but as an integral architectural component. Native vegetation, grasses, and gardens are used to structure open spaces, guide circulation, and reinforce seasonal change. The project avoids ornamental landscaping in favor of an ecological approach rooted in the existing ecosystem.

The result is a hospitality project that prioritizes silence, continuity, and environmental respect. Through restrained architectural language, careful siting, and material honesty, the intervention reinterprets the traditional masia as a contemporary place for living, gathering, and retreat, deeply embedded in the natural landscape of Olivella.
