Located in the heart of Gràcia, on a first floor with a private patio.

First step: Demolish. We began by stripping the space down completely. During demolition, we uncovered original 19th-century polychrome paintings on the vaulted ceiling. These were carefully restored, preserving the textures and layers of history we found. The walls were peeled back to their original surfaces, and the existing flooring was repaired and revived. At this stage, the essence of the space had already begun to emerge.

Second step: Two boxes. All technical and service areas were consolidated within a clean, white central volume. This box houses the bathroom, which features a window offering a view of the restored ceiling from the shower. A second white box was placed in the patio, creating a detached guest room that dialogues with the main living space.

Third step: Craft and details. Beneath the apartment, we discovered Quim’s blacksmith workshop, a fortunate coincidence. Every window frame, hinge, and metal detail in the project was custom-made there, ensuring that the craftsmanship of the structure remains deeply connected to its own ground.

Epilogue. What began as a simple renovation became a conversation between past and present, between the handmade and the precise. The project balances memory and clarity: the patina of the old ceiling meets the purity of the new white boxes. In the end, Reig I Bonet is less an intervention than a quiet coexistence, a home where history and light share the same space.
