A civic building defined by porosity, light and public ground. The proposal for Sant Martí is conceived as an urban infrastructure for collective life. Rather than an isolated object, the building operates as a civic device: a porous volume anchored to a generous public ground that extends the logic of the surrounding streets and open spaces into the project itself. The intervention responds to the identity of Sant Martí dense, heterogeneous and deeply urban by proposing an architecture that is both recognizable at the scale of the city and welcoming at the scale of everyday use.

A porous envelope as climate and identity. The building is wrapped by a continuous perforated façade that defines its architectural character while performing as an environmental filter. This skin moderates solar exposure, allows controlled natural ventilation and generates a dynamic play of light and shadow across interiors throughout the day. The envelope gives the volume a clear, abstract presence within the urban fabric, yet avoids monumentality through its material softness and atmospheric quality. From a distance, the building reads as a compact civic landmark; at close range, it dissolves into depth, texture and transparency.

The public ground as architectural core. At ground level, the building opens into a sequence of vaulted porticoes that form a shaded civic threshold between city and interior. These spaces are not residual but central to the project: they operate as covered plazas, places for gathering, waiting, informal meetings and spontaneous use. The continuity between exterior plaza and interior foyer blurs conventional boundaries. The building becomes an extension of the public realm, offering permeability, multiple points of access and spatial generosity. Circulation is conceived as experience rather than corridor: movement unfolds through light, depth and visual connections.

Light as material. Natural light is treated as a constructive element. The perforated façade filters daylight into the upper spaces, while patios and internal voids bring light deep into the heart of the building. The result is an atmosphere that changes throughout the day soft, diffuse, never static reinforcing the experiential quality of the architecture. Interior spaces benefit from this controlled luminosity, creating environments suitable for both concentration and encounter. The project prioritizes spatial comfort over formal gesture.

Urban integration and collective use. The masterplan strategy reinforces continuity with the surrounding fabric. The building aligns with existing flows, consolidates public space and strengthens pedestrian connectivity across the site. Landscape elements trees, planted areas, shaded platforms are integrated as active components of the project, contributing to microclimate, comfort and identity. The proposal does not seek iconicity through form alone, but through civic performance: accessibility, openness, adaptability and long-term relevance.
